Tips and insights from stand-out candidates who have been hired on Vouch.

Meet Cedric Guerrero. Cedric was hired by farm-vlogger Cole the Cornstar on Vouch. Check out some of their recent videos on Cole’s channel.

Before getting hired, Cedric completed a trial edit as a final step in the hiring process. Here are Cedric’s tips on how to nail a trial edit.

Do your research

• Know the creator’s style inside and out. Their intros, storytelling, pacing, music, etc. Study their videos and take notes.

• Just as important: know what they DON’T do. Don’t use graphics, sound effects, transitions or timing that doesn't fit the channel.

Understand the assignment

• Know what’s required. Not following directions is a quick way to get disqualified.

• For example: Is the creator expecting you to match their current style or are they interested in your own unique take?

• Give the creator what they want to see and add your own ideas where they make sense.

• Never miss the deadline that they give you or the deadline that you told them. It’s like showing up late to work on the first day.

Extra thoughts

• Make something that’s good enough to be posted on the channel. That’s all the creator is thinking about when they watch.

• What are some things you found wrong when watching the creator’s videos? Address these in your edit and let the creator know that you fixed them. Explaining your thought process gives the creator a chance to see how you work.

• Be consistent. Perfect graphics and messy sound design is worse than B+ graphics and B+ sound design. Simple and clean works.
